When you package meals, you’re helping thousands of hungry people throughout the world. Meals are transported directly to locations where people are undernourished or starving. Not only are you helping people in need, but meal packaging is also a fun, easy way to volunteer. So, whether you’re an individual, or represent a business, school, church, community organization or interested group of volunteers, there are many ways you can volunteer with Meals from the Heartland.
Open Packaging: Come to an open packaging event at our West Des Moines packaging center. These are open to the public on a first come, first served basis and are scheduled Tuesday through Saturday. In groups of 7-10, you’ll package approximately 2,000 meals in one hour. Even a short amount of time can make a huge difference. We also need Pack Masters, Bucket Brigade, Event Greeters and Dishwashers. Click here to learn more about volunteer roles or here to sign up.
Your Donations Matter: Did you know that it costs somewhere between $50-100 every time an awesome volunteer packages meals for a 2-hour shift? You can help by making a donation when you come to package.
Please note: for student/youth groups in 8th grade and younger, we require a minimum of one (1) adult volunteer for each packaging table.
