We Help the Hungry Here at Home and Around the World
Hunger is unforgiving. Every 10 seconds a child dies of hunger-related issues. And it’s not only a problem halfway around the world in developing countries. It’s right here in Iowa and across our nation too. Behind every disaster — catastrophic storms, fires, pandemics, war — hunger follows to haunt survivors. Meals from the Heartland has been actively and successfully battling hunger for over 14 years, delivering nourished food and hope. Currently, thousands of volunteers come together to package millions of meals each year. Join us and help the hungry.

People in our neighborhoods: 1 in 8 Iowa children do not have enough to eat.

People across our nations: 13 million U.S. children live in food-insecure households.

People around the world: 66 million children attend school hungry.
Help keep bellies full and smiles on faces.
From the Heartland to the World
Meals from the Heartland stands out from other hunger charities. What makes us different from other hunger relief organizations? We’re an organization fighting hunger in Iowa, as well as around the world. We’re Midwesterners with big hearts and a calling to serve, and we’re coming together to save starving children, one meal at a time. It’s a wonderful feeling to help the hungry.
In 2014, Meals from the Heartland was blessed to open our Patty Cownie Center. This building was made possible with the generous donations of many. This facility has office space, a state-of-the-art Packaging Center and a climate-controlled warehouse.
We also partner with a large network of strategic distributors to send food to locations where we’re confident it will reach the right hands. With careful attention to social and political restrictions throughout the world, these are the areas our food is currently distributed:
Domestically: DMARC, Backpack Buddies, Food Bank of Southern Iowa, HACAP Food Reservoir, Heart of Mary Catholic Cluster, JOPPA, Midwest Food Bank (Illinois and Arizona), NE Iowa Food Bank, Salvation Army and Community Pantry in Gallup, New Mexico.
Globally: South Africa, Haiti, El Salvador, Ghana, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Antigua, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, British Virgin Islands, Turks and Caicos Islands, Honduras, Mexico, Tanzania, Ukraine and others.
