Cedar Rapids Hunger Fight
Cedar Rapids, IA 52401 United States
Thanks to the caring community of Cedar Rapids, over 200 volunteers packaged 201,960 Taco Mac meals to be distributed to those in need during this annual 3-day event. Thank you to each and every one of you who took time out of your busy schedule during these uncertain times to give back to the community. We look forward to seeing you in 2021!
The need to feed those in need is even greater now during the COVID-19 crisis AND the recent derecho in Iowa. One in ten people are currently struggling with hunger in Iowa.
“Meals from the Heartland’s mission is to feed starving children,” said Executive Director Greg DeHaai. “We work year-round to do that, of course, but continuing to feed those in need is top priority during these difficult times. We simply cannot stop fighting to save the starving. So we’ve reengineered our 3rd Annual Cedar Rapids Hunger Fight, to package meals in a safe, socially distanced manner, and we know Iowans will step up as they always do to make a difference in the lives of those who don’t have enough to eat.”
Thanks to Life 101.9 you can hear all about it above.
Meals from the Heartland is seeking volunteers to package meals for the Cedar Rapids Hunger Fight presented by Transamerica, Hy-Vee and Cargill, November 9-11! Our goal during this 3-day event is to package 400,000 meals, many of which will be donated to the HACAP Food Reservoir to feed our hungry neighbors.
Please note the following changes to increase volunteer and staff safety:
- All volunteers must be 14 years or older or at least 8 years old and accompanied by an adult
- We will be enforcing a 2 child per adult policy for children ages 8 to 13
- Maximum number of volunteers has been reduced to 55 individuals per shift
- You must bring your own face mask to be worn during your shift
Sponsorship opportunities are available to help us fund the raw ingredients to package thousands of meals during this 3-day event. Click here to download the Cedar Rapids Hunger Fight Sponsorships or contact Joel O’Dell at firstname.lastname@example.org or 515-473-9530 to discuss in more detail.
