This event is about more than setting a world record. It’s about what can happen when more than 1,000 people come together with one purpose: helping feed children and families facing hunger.
Together, volunteers will package enough nutritious meals to help feed 2,307 children for an entire year.
The meals packaged that evening will help nourish communities both close to home and around the world. Meals prepared for international distribution will include rice, soy protein, vitamins, minerals and dried vegetables. Meals staying closer to home will include enriched pasta, textured vegetable protein and a vitamin- and mineral-fortified cheese mix.
And the impact will begin right here in Iowa. Half of the meals packaged will stay in Iowa, reaching children and families through six local food bank partners. The remaining meals will help provide nourishment to communities throughout Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska and eight countries around the world.
The world record attempt will take place during the 2026 Norman E. Borlaug International Dialogue on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. Volunteers should arrive at the EMC Expo Center by 5:30 p.m.
