Volunteer Spotlight: Grant Meyer

Grant and his first grade teacher, Ms. Srsha.

Grant began feeding the hungry when he was just four years old. His grandpa and grandma gave him a mini M&Ms tube on Halloween and told him that if he filled it with quarters, it would feed 70 kids without food. Grant raked leaves and helped around the house to earn quarters to fill the tube. He first packaged at Meals from the Heartland a year later with his church, yelling “box!” when his table had filled a box with 36 meal packages. Update on Haiti

Last week our hardworking volunteers packaged over 400,000 meals for people in Haiti. We have received overwhelming support for the Pack for Haiti effort and hope to see your support and passion continue through the end of the month. Meals are On the Way Through our distribution partner, Convoy of Hope, we were able to send a shipment of six million meals to Haiti last week. These MftH meals were stocked in a Convoy warehouse and designed for immediate disaster response exactly like this.   The warehouse that housed our meals is now completely empty and we have an urgent

We’ve been feeding kids in Haiti for several years through our distribution partner, Convoy of Hope. In July, we learned about Laurette (right), who received Meals from the Heartland meals through her orphanage in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. Support Needed for Disaster Relief in Haiti

Hurricane Matthew Strikes Haiti Hurricane Matthew hit Haiti’s southwestern coast on Tuesday. Intense storms with 145 mph winds are expected to cause extensive flooding and mudslides, destroying Haitian communities’ already unsound housing structures. Significant damage is expected in many communities, which will worsen existing food insecurity in Haiti.  Please Help We already have a shipment of meals headed for Haiti through our partner, Convoy of Hope. Celebrate a Nite in South Africa

A portion of the meals we package at Meals from the Heartland are shipped to regions in Africa through our partner, Blessman Ministries. Join us for this unique opportunity to learn about the people we feed!   Blessman Ministries Hosts “Celebrate A Nite in South Africa” Thursday, November 10 at the Valley Community Center 4:30pm – Package meals with Meals from the Heartland at the Community Center. Sign up HERE. 5:30-7:30pm – Learn about where these meals are shipped through Blessman Ministries and take part in fun family activities! Calling All High School Volunteers!

Notice: Given the recent disaster in Haiti, we’ve changed this event to Pack for Haiti, and it is open to the public. If you’re a high schooler in Iowa, we want you to participate in Student Challenge 2016! Bring your friends, your team, your club or your entire class to compete for a 2 hours. During this time, you’ll package as many meals as possible for starving families around the world. Try to bring as many students as you can from your High School to earn the title of State Champions!

This month, Hy-Vee will contribute up to $100,000 to Meals from the Heartland– But we need your help! Post as many photos as you can of your family enjoying a meal together and use the hashtag #HyVeeFamilyMeals. Each post with this hashtag will raise $1 for Meals from the Heartland! Post the hashtag on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook during September and make sure it’s publicly viewable so that you can help feed families in need.
