THE FEED

UNITE2FEED, Des Moines!

Our first collaborative #Unite2Feed event with DMARC and the Food Bank of Iowa was a wonderful success. We packaged 10,000 Combo Meals that will be distributed to food pantries around the state. We’re so grateful for the support we received from the Des Moines community and beyond to help spread the word about hunger here in Iowa. We had such a great response to our first event, that we’re holding another in February! Our next UNITE2FEED event will take place February 21, and we want you to volunteer! Again, this event will be hosted by all three organizations at the Food

meals from the heartland feed the hungry volunteer

Thanks to the hard work of our inspirational volunteers, we packaged 18,144,000 meals in 2016. Whether you funded meal ingredients, volunteered at our packaging center, Annual Hunger Fight, or held a mobile event at your location, you changed lives. Over 18 million lives, to be exact. Our partners at Convoy of Hope helped create this video at our 2016 Annual Hunger Fight to celebrate our inspirational volunteers. We can’t wait to continue fighting hunger with you in 2017!

Volunteer Spotlight: Grant Meyer

Grant began feeding the hungry when he was just four years old. His grandpa and grandma gave him a mini M&Ms tube on Halloween and told him that if he filled it with quarters, it would feed 70 kids without food. Grant raked leaves and helped around the house to earn quarters to fill the tube. He first packaged at Meals from the Heartland a year later with his church, yelling “box!” when his table had filled a box with 36 meal packages. Grant’s passion for feeding hungry people grew when he learned how easy and exciting it was to

Package Meals for Haiti

Help us help victims of Hurricane Matthew. Come to our Packaging Center next week for Pack for Haiti. Every meal packaged next week will feed people in Haiti. We’ve been feeding kids in Haiti for several years through our distribution partner, Convoy of Hope. In July, we learned about Laurette (right), who received Meals from the Heartland meals through her orphanage in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti. At just twelve years old, Laurette lived in poverty with her grandma, often eating just one meal a day. When her grandma passed, she was dropped off at an orphanage in Haiti’s capital. Her story goes from
