Meals from the Heartland is helping to celebrate 2016 National Catholic/Christian Schools Week January 31-February 6 by welcoming local students as they volunteer their time with us.
A total of six Central Iowa Catholic or Christian schools will participate and spend an afternoon at our West Des Moines location over a two-week period, packaging nutritious meals to be distributed in Central Iowa and around the world.
Holy Family Catholic School in Des Moines brought about 115 students with 7 adults on Thursday, January 28 to share their time with us. As the second school to visit us this week, they packaged an impressive 24,000 meals during their shift! We thank them for their hard work and hope they had as much fun as we did!
On Monday, February 1, we had about 120 second, third, fourth and fifth grade students from St. Theresa Catholic School join us to package some meals. They worked hard and had a blast and contributed almost 19,000 meals to be distributed to children, individuals and families who wouldn’t eat otherwise. Thank you for your dedication!
Students from Iowa Christian Academy spent the day with us and packaged a whopping 38,500 meals! They really enjoyed themselves, and took some time to say a blessing over the meals they packaged before they were finished. We hope they will be back again soon! Thank you!
