Iowa Heart Center’s Valentine Event Was A Huge Success!

Is there a better way to observe Valentine’s Day than by celebrating heart health and packaging meals for the hungry? Volunteers from the Iowa Heart Center didn’t think so! On a chilly Saturday afternoon of a holiday weekend, Meals from the Heartland was honored to have about one hundred volunteers from the Iowa Heart Center in our packaging facility for a “Wear Your Heart on Your Sleeve” event. Everyone from providers and nurses to executive and administrative staff brought their families and shared lots of smiles and laughter during their two shifts. Celebrating National Catholic/Christian Schools Week

Meals from the Heartland is helping to celebrate 2016 National Catholic/Christian Schools Week January 31-February 6 by welcoming local students as they volunteer their time with us. A total of six Central Iowa Catholic or Christian schools will participate and spend an afternoon at our West Des Moines location over a two-week period, packaging nutritious meals to be distributed in Central Iowa and around the world. Holy Family Catholic School in Des Moines brought about 115 students with 7 adults on Thursday, January 28 to share their time with us. As the second school to visit us this week, they packaged an impressive 24,000 meals

Life’s most urgent and persistent question is, ‘What are you doing for others?’ –Martin Luther King Jr. January 18, 2016 will mark the 33rd celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Reverend King was not only a champion of civil rights, but a teacher of the timeless values by which he lived his life: courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service. Meals from the Heartland will be offering packaging opportunities for volunteers all day on January 18, starting at 8:00am. Each shift lasts an hour and a half and can accommodate 60 bodies to package meals for the hungry here in

Thank You Christmas Week Volunteers!

There are no small jobs at Meals from the Heartland, only small volunteers! Thanks to this hard-working crew and many other families, friends and co-workers this week, more than 200,000 meals are ready to feed the hungry here in Iowa and all around the world! We were overwhelmed with all the volunteer support we received this holiday week! We saw businesses, local families, extended families and old friends all come together for a good cause! THANK YOU for making this a very blessed and merry Christmas for all involved!
