Returning competitor Chef Diego Critelli is another one of our talented, generous chefs at Morsel Combat 2018!
A native of Padua, Italy, Critelli found his calling to cuisine at a young age, learning the art of cooking from his father. At the age of 19, he began his professional career at the family's restaurant. He continued to refine his culinary skills, working in Paris and the U.K. and as a featured chef on Italian TV. His connection with Des Moines began in 2005, when he attended Winefest. He made repeated trips to Iowa to teach classes at the Iowa Culinary Institute and made Iowa his home in 2014, to join Lucca. Today, Critelli is with Port of Des Moines Trellis at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, Trellis Catering, The Riverwalk Hub and 320 River Center.
Critelli believes the most flavorful cuisine is made simply and with the highest quality, fresh ingredients. His life's work is to help others appreciate and enjoy authentic Italian cooking.
Join us on Septmeber 30 at Prairie Meadows Event Center to meet Chef Critelli and enjoy a taste of his work! Morsel Combat tickets at bit.ly/MorselCombat2018

After returning to Iowa, he became Sous Chef at Fleming’s, and in 2014, was named Chef Partner.
Matt brings a straightforward approach to cooking and an affinity for southwestern cuisine. We are excited to welcome back last year's Morsel Combat People's Choice champion, Wasabi Chi Chef Jay Wang!
Jay immigrated to New York from Fujian, a culinary rich region of China. His first restaurant job was as a bus boy in a sushi restaurant in Manhattan, New York. When he was 18, he traveled to Japan to study its cuisine, training under legendary sushi chef, Kindo Izumi, a master with 50 years of experience. Jay was running Japanese and Chinese restaurants in New York and Philadelphia before moving to Iowa to open Wasabi Chi in 2011, bringing New York-style sushi to Des Moines.
His international experience and expertise brings stylish sushi and delicious Asian fusion to Des Moines diners in an inventive and impressive presentation. We are excited to see what he will whip up this year at Morsel Combat! Get your tickets today for a chance to try his dish: bit.ly/MorselCombay2018
Listen up, sweet tooth. There is something for you at Morsel Combat, too!
Jill Stoker is a cake and cupcake maker extraordinaire. What started as a hobby of making cakes for friends and family has now turned into a flourishing career. Jill’s motto is to bake your dreams into a reality! And that she does with her creativity from making flavored cupcakes to specialty cakes. She is known for her rose swirl and glitter cupcakes. Fun fact about Jill is that her business name, Jillybean Cakes, actually came from the nickname that her grandmother gave her. When Jill isn’t busy baking, you can find her volunteering her time with the preschoolers at First Family Church, working on various house projects or hanging with her nieces!

Don't worry, our next featured Morsel Combat chef is NOT four years old. But he has had the love of cooking for that long! ❤
John Dana Custis is largely self-taught, after watching his mother cook and host friends in their home. Then, on Saturday mornings with then future wife (20 years ago), she'd read recipes from Bon Appetit and John would say, “I can make that!” In those days, they had a policy that if it was awful, they could always order pizza. That approach provided tremendous freedom to experiment with minimal consequences for failing. During that time, he learned ALOT, and that failure is a magnificent teacher. And they haven't needed to order pizza in a long time. 😉
Come taste and see John's creations on September 30 at Prairie Meadows! Together with John, the evening will help support the fight against hunger. 🌍
Please, help us welcome one of our talented and generous chefs in our line-up of competitors for Morsel Combat, Glenn Pike! 👏👏 Glenn brings more than 38 years’ experience to the table. A self-taught chef, Glenn has worked his way up in the industry and is currently the Sous Chef at AJ's Steakhouse at Prairie Meadows. Glenn’s talent and attention to detail has helped make the restaurant one of central Iowa’s most reputable steakhouses.
Glenn’s passion is the grill. In his spare time, Glenn enjoys hosting cookouts – complete with yard games, bonfires, and singalongs. Glenn also strives to give back to the community by supporting local food banks and other hunger initiatives.
Thank you for participating in Morsel Combat, Glenn! 😊
