"We take for granted our meals; a lot of people in our community don't have that luxury. These meal packages may be the only food they have that day. Most people I know want to make a positive difference in the world and Meals from the Heartland helps us do just that." - Rob, Hunger Fighter
Rob hits home many of the reasons people come to our doors, or invite us to theirs, and put compassion into action. Lives are changed thanks to hunger fighters like Rob; and YOU. #thankYOUrob#beahungerfighter
The Tuesday after Thanksgiving has become known as “Giving Tuesday”, a global day of giving. So today we want to take a moment and give thanks to the thousands of volunteers and supporters who make us who we are – an engaged community of hunger fighters committed to saving the starving. Without you, we do not function. Without you, people go hungry. Without you, the world would be worse off.
This holiday season, please know we’re thinking of and praying for each of you, that your holidays be blessed and that you know how appreciative we are of all that you do! #thankYOU#GivingTuesday#bettertogether
Friends, we hope you have a very blessed Thanksgiving! And thank you for doing your part in keeping bellies full in Iowa and around the world. You continue to amaze us with your compassion and generosity every year. We are grateful for each of YOU. ❤🦃🍚 #thankYOU#bettertogether#beahungerfighter
The first year of MILES for the Heartland was a hit! We had our first-ever Meals from the Heartland volunteer bike ride. In all, our riders raised nearly $2,000 and helped feed 10,000 people! 🚲🍚 We met at The Hall in Valley Junction to celebrate.
Our first special-prize winner was Brian McClean! He rode over 500 miles, resulting in the most money raised. So he's the owner of a new bike pump and bike lock! 👏👏 Thanks to all who rode, pledged and particpated. We can't wait to log more miles in 2019! 💪

Returning competitor Chef Diego Critelli is another one of our talented, generous chefs at Morsel Combat 2018!
A native of Padua, Italy, Critelli found his calling to cuisine at a young age, learning the art of cooking from his father. At the age of 19, he began his professional career at the family's restaurant. He continued to refine his culinary skills, working in Paris and the U.K. and as a featured chef on Italian TV. His connection with Des Moines began in 2005, when he attended Winefest. He made repeated trips to Iowa to teach classes at the Iowa Culinary Institute and made Iowa his home in 2014, to join Lucca. Today, Critelli is with Port of Des Moines Trellis at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden, Trellis Catering, The Riverwalk Hub and 320 River Center.
Critelli believes the most flavorful cuisine is made simply and with the highest quality, fresh ingredients. His life's work is to help others appreciate and enjoy authentic Italian cooking.
Join us on Septmeber 30 at Prairie Meadows Event Center to meet Chef Critelli and enjoy a taste of his work! Morsel Combat tickets at bit.ly/MorselCombat2018

At 16, he began his culinary career in the kitchen of Okoboji Grill in Ames. In 2008, after graduating from the Iowa Culinary Institute, he traveled to France to train at the Novotel Café in St. Entienne. After returning to Iowa, he became Sous Chef at Fleming’s, and in 2014, was named Chef Partner.
Matt brings a straightforward approach to cooking and an affinity for southwestern cuisine. He believes food doesn’t need to be complicated to be good – when food is prepared with creativity and passion, a chef gives life to everything on the plate. We are excited to welcome back last year's Morsel Combat People's Choice champion, Wasabi Chi Chef Jay Wang!
Jay immigrated to New York from Fujian, a culinary rich region of China. His first restaurant job was as a bus boy in a sushi restaurant in Manhattan, New York. When he was 18, he traveled to Japan to study its cuisine, training under legendary sushi chef, Kindo Izumi, a master with 50 years of experience. Jay was running Japanese and Chinese restaurants in New York and Philadelphia before moving to Iowa to open Wasabi Chi in 2011, bringing New York-style sushi to Des Moines.
His international experience and expertise brings stylish sushi and delicious Asian fusion to Des Moines diners in an inventive and impressive presentation. We are excited to see what he will whip up this year at Morsel Combat! Get your tickets today for a chance to try his dish: bit.ly/MorselCombay2018
