Compete Then Eat!
We kicked off the 2023 16th Annual Hunger Fight with the Hy-Vee One Step Challenge and Morsel Combat. Over 400 attendees enjoyed food prepared by Hy-Vee, El Fogon, Fleming’s, Exile, The Eggroll Ladies, Buzzard Billy’s, Bix and Aura. Delicious desserts were served by Euphoria Cakes, Eileen’s Colossal Cookies, Echo’s Cookies and Nothing Bundt Cakes. Congratulations to Exile and Nothing Bundt Cakes for taking home the People’s Choice Awards.
30 teams competed for the coveted Hy-Vee Cup with Wells Fargo winning the 2-box race and setting a new record time!

16th Annual Hunger Fight
With the help of 3,300 volunteers, sponsors, Board of Directors, our local business community and Convoy of Hope, Meals from the Heartland was able to package nearly 3.6 MILLION meals during the 2023 Annual Hunger Fight, held August 30-September 2. This annual event has been held downtown Des Moines at Hy-Vee Hall since 2008.
Meals will be distributed across Iowa as well as to Burkina Faso, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua, Philippines and Togo.
We couldn’t help feed over 500,000 children every school day without YOU! Don’t forget that you can volunteer year-around Tuesday-Saturday at our West Des Moines Packaging Center. Check out all of our events here.
