At this time of year 3 is almost always better than 1! Three wise men sound better than one. Three snowballs on a snowman are better than one. And If I’m being honest, I’d rather have three Christmas cookies, candies, or presents than one! Well the same goes for our Unite2Feed events, where 3 Des Moines area, hunger fighting, non-profits come together as 1 to feed those around Central Iowa. On December 5th, Meals from the Heartland, the Food Bank of Iowa, and the Des Moines Area Religious Council teamed up, along with over 130 volunteers, to assemble 5,000 Taco Rice and 5,000 Chili Mac meal bags for food pantries in the area. These nutritious meals are available to anyone who needs them, at no cost and at any time, while supplies last.
Our goal for Unite2Feed is to gather once a quarter to assemble meals to feed children and families in Iowa. Nearly 400,000 Iowans are food insecure and one in five children goes to bed hungry. When impoverished families feed their children meals that are nutritious and inexpensive, children can grow stronger and learn better to achieve greater success. Families gain more time to improve their skills and find better employment, housing, and care for their children.
