Through the years, the meals from the Heartland Board of Directors, staff and event coordinators have relied on key community partnerships and thousands of volunteers to help us both fund and staff our hunger-fighting events. Without them, Iowa would not be nearing its goal of becoming the “Hunger Fighting Capital of the World”!
In 2014, more than 47,000 people volunteered with Meals from the Heartland during hunger fights at our packaging center in West Des Moines, at locations of their choice and the Annual Hunger Fight in downtown Des Moines. Individuals, families, as well as large and small groups of all kinds are welcome to package meals with us!
Through several essential partnerships with groups such as Convoy of Hope, based out of Missouri, Blessman Ministries in South Africa, the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) and Food Bank of Iowa, we are able to provide on-going support to children and families locally and worldwide to promote sustainable health. These relationships allow our volunteers to continue doing what they do best – packaging meals – while relying on our experienced partners to do what they do best – deliver life-sustaining meals to the hungry.
IOWA YOUTH HUNGER FIGHTS
Special thanks to Walmart for helping fund our 2015 Iowa Youth Hunger Fight events. During these events, hundreds of Iowa youth will package over 100,000 meals for statewide distribution, benefiting food insecure individuals and families all across Iowa. We’re thankful for community partners that help fund special programs like this.
